4th and 5th Grade Testing Information
Students can be nominated to be tested for AIG identification in the first and second semesters of school. Nominations can be submitted by teachers, parents, and students. All nominations should be turned in to the AIG teacher.
SPring Testing Window
Nominations due January 21st (no requests will be considered after this date)
This window is for any 4th and 5th graders who have not been tested within the past year. It is also for students who are only identified in one area and would like to be retested for the other.
Testing will take place February 3rd-7th
Results will most likely be sent home around May, but this largely depends on the testing office and AIG department. Any students who qualify begin receiving services at the beginning of the following school year.

Keep in mind...
All students who are in 3rd grade in Wake County take the CogAT and/or Iowa to identify potential AIG students. Students who do not qualify in one or both areas are eligible to be retested in 4th or 5th grade.
Students must wait at least one year before being retested. The reason for this is that scores typically do not change when they are tested back-to-back.
Students are not automatically retested in 4th or 5th Grade. They must be nominated by a teacher or parent. The nominations go to the School Based Committee for Gifted Education and serious consideration is given to whether a student has demonstrated a need to be retested or not. If there is no evidence to suggest that the child has the potential to be AIG, a nomination to retest can be denied.

What tests do they take?
All students testing for the first time, and students who are retesting, but were not identified in any area take the CogAT and Iowa.
Students who are identified in one area as AIG will retake all parts of the CogAT (can't be separated) and only the area of the Iowa that is looking to be added. For example if they are identified as AIG in Math, they would only take the Math section of the Iowa.
